        E - Safety

Safety of students is obviously very important, this includes making sure, as far as the school can, that students are safe when using computers, especially on the Internet. The Internet is a fantastic resource for learning and entertainment and is available not just via computers but also mobile phones and the television.

There are, though, some real dangers and we try to warn students about those dangers and help them stay in control when they are using computers at school and at home. This is covered in ICT lessons by teachers who are trained by the Children's Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) a police organisation which investigates abuse and tries to protect children online. Some of the material is hard hitting but should equip students with the information to avoid abuse and to report any attempts of abuse online.

There are excellent materials and advice specifically for students and separately for parents on the CEOP website www.thinkuknow.co.uk

Further help for parents is in the form of Cyber Sentinel, software that you can download and put on any or all home computers to give you, as parents, some control over how your computers are being used by your children. This software is free to all households with a child who attends a school in Warwickshire. You can get more information, including the code which allows you to get the software free, on the leaflet by clicking here.
