Department Success Rising KS3 and GCSE results (66%
A*-C in 2009). The content of music lessons is differentiated to include and develop all gifted and talented students, not only those receiving instrumental tuition. Tasks are devised to enable in-depth understanding of styles and genres as well as to develop practical skills. Students may become a member of an editorial team and take part in workshops run by artists from outside the school. Our Young Music Leaders supervise and coach others, or lead Worship. Those students identified as gifted or talented may also invited to join one or more of the groups listed below.
Extra-curricular Gospel choir, Samba, Folk, Rock and Fusion Bands are available in after-school sessions, providing extension activities to curriculum topics and aiming to provide musical experiences that will involve students with very different interests. Groups may be formed in response to the specific needs or interests of a particular year group, or to provide for an influx of players of a particular instrument. Students are trained to lead groups as well as to develop flexible ensemble skills, and receive a CD of their performances. Our groups have performed at various venues and events in Rugby.
Our worship group of instrumentalists and singers supports worship in assemblies and the Year 9 Music Leaders run practice sessions at lunch-times as well as an "open mic" session every Friday.
Our trips to see high-quality performances have included Stomp, a Mozart opera, the Music Live Exhibition and Warwick University Student Concerts.
